Olympic Speed Skater Clara Hughes is 1st Canadian to Win Medals in both Winter & Summer Olympics
Having just won the Bronze Medal in the 5000 meter speed skating in Salt Lake City, Clara, a member of the Canadian national cycling team, also trained on CompuTrainer for the 1996 Summer Olympics under the direction of national team coach Eric Van den Eydne where she won 2 Bronze Medals in the time trial road race. She was shown in a recent TV interview training for the Winter Olympics on her CompuTrainer.

CTeamers Burst from the Gate to Win in January
Malaysia: New Zealander Bryan Rhodes won Ironman Malaysia for the second year in a row in sweltering heat in the record time of 8:10:35, fifteen minutes ahead of Jason Shortis and Lothar Leder of Germany. Bryan exited the water first and added to his lead in the bike. Australia: American Barb Lindquist has established herself in the first three sprint triathlons of the Accenture Series as the world front runner at that distance by winning all three. This is the first time that an American triathlete has dominated a major Australian race series in competition with all the best of the previously unbeatable Australian women .... truly a remarkable achievement!

Pucan Half-Ironman Won by Lisa Bentley
Chile: It has become a custom at the Pucon Half Ironman that North American athletes from the northern climes who have been trapped indoors on their CompuTrainers during the winter win the race ... against opponents from the sun countries. This year Canadian Lisa Bentley, who won handily, reported the following: "The CompuTrainer has been very good to me over the past few weeks. I was able to ride outside until mid-December, but now I'm full time on my CompuTrainer. Of course, I rode it a few times each week even when I did ride outside. As usual, the feedback is brilliant and I am happy to report that my spin scan is in the high 70's and sometimes even sneaks into the 80's. "Indominable veteran American pro Ken Glah finished second to the winner Australian Craig Walton by a margin of 1min3sec. Ken hibernates in West Chester, Pennsylvania, during the winter appearing in Pucon to do battle with the athletes from down under. Last year he won.
Four "C Team" Members Named USAT Elite Athletes of the Year

FULLDESC: USA Triathlon has chosen two triathletes and two duathletes as their Elite Athletes of 2001: Siri Lindley, winner of the ITU World Championship in Edmonton; Tim DeBoom, Ironman World Champion; and U.S. Duathlon Champions Andrea Ratkovic and Greg Watson. Greg has had the most consistent winning record of any professional multisport athlete in the U.S. during the past five years. He also is one of the few professionals who works full time (as a financial analyst). Greg has trained continuously on CompuTrainer since 1998.
Six more "Best of the Best" triathletes moving to CompuTrainer
Ever since CompuTrainer was introduced in 1986, many of the world's top professional triathletes and duathletes have asked for product sponsorship because they know it boosts their performance. The number of active top professionals on the 'CTeam' now numbers more than 50. It's not unusual to receive a number of such requests each month, but December 2001/January 2002 was definitely the high water mark.
TEXT2: Tim DeBoom (Ironman World Champion) and his wife Nicole, Tony DeBoom, Chris McCormack (World Triathlon Champion), Siri Lindley (World Triathlon Champion), and Olivier Bernhard (#2 world ranked Duathlete) all joined the CTeam during that time.
Canadian National Triathlon Team Riddled with CompuTrainer Users!
Many of the recently named 2002 Canadian National Triathlon Team members are CompuTrainer users. Simon Whitfield (Olympic Champion), Peter Reid (Ironman Champion), and Lori Bowden (Ironman Champion) used CompuTrainer extensively before becoming champions. Lucy Smith (Canadian Duathlon Champion), Lisa Bentley, Sharon Donnelly, Carol Montgomery, Gillian Bakker and David Harju are also inveterate users.
CompuTrainer "6 Hour Club" Grows by Two.
When Tara-Lee Marshall, two time Ironman champion, reported she had ridden her CompuTrainer for 6 hrs non-stop, thereby becoming the first member of the "6 Hour Club", some wondered if there ever would be second. The suspense is over with the induction of two new members, Shelley and Dan Bramblett of Panama Beach, Florida. Shelly (Co-Race Director of Ironman Florida) and husband Dan trained together on their twin CompuTrainers in their garage for Ironman Canada 2001. On four occasions they rode the tough Richter Pass course outside Penticton (simulated in the CompuTrainer software) for from 4 to 6½ hours. It was Shelley's first IM race, but she said " we had so much fun on the bike course we stopped to take photos" and Dan said "it was a breeze". They used the same gearing and everything including food and drink with ann 'aid station' table between them. Dan said the course was not only in their 'muscle memories' but in their 'entire bodies'. Shelley finished her first IM bike split in 7hr 14 in. Who's next for the "6 Hour Club"?
Canadian Road Pro Lyne Bessette wins VeloNews North American Cyclist of the Year honors.
Lyne Bessette of Quebec City, Quebec, was recently named 2001 North American Cyclist of the Year by VeloNews magazine. Her season got off to a rocky start when she crashed and broke her collarbone at California's Redlands Classic, but she came back to win May's prestigious Tour de L'Aude in France and then dominated June's Hewlett-Packard Women's Challenge in Idaho. Lyne, like all the Canadian National Team members, trains on CompuTrainer and says this about her experience:"This is my 5th year using the CompuTrainer. 2001 was my best season to date and my CompuTrainer followed me from January to May. It was very important in my preparation at the start of the season. I was able to work with my coach while we were separated and we were always on the same wave length. My training sessions were critical in my improved results and the CompuTrainer was a key part of that." Lyne Bessette
New Time Trialing Test Protocol Using CompuTrainer Accurately Predicts Actual Performance.
In an article published online in May 2001 in the European Journal of Applied Physiology (one of the top, peer reviewed publications in the field of exercise physiology) Professor Dan Heil and associates at Montana State University describe a new cycling ergometer protocol using CompuTrainer which accurately predicts uphill time-trialing performance.
Four of Top 10 Women at Kona Are Long Time CompuTrainer Users
Lori Bowden (2nd), Karen Smyers (5th), Fernanda Keller (6th), and Gina Kehr (8th) all did themselves proud in the toughest Ironman World Championship on record with the Kona winds so high that people were getting blown off their bikes. We're proud of them.
World Champion Peter Reid Wins Ironman Canada Second Year in a Row
After winning Ironman Canada 2001 on August 26th with a blazing bike split (which ace runner Olivier Bernhard was unable to overcome) Peter sent this e-mail message, "Thanks RacerMate! The weekly Computrainer workouts were the key to rocking the bike course at IMC! Thanks a ton. Cheers, Pete"
USAT National Duathlon Championships Won/Dominated by Numerous CompuTrainer Users
Long time CompuTrainer users Greg Watson and Lucy Smith won the Dannon Duathlon in Carlsbad, California, on July 15. Henrik Svarre from Denmark and Michael Tobin finished 3rd and 4th; Andrea Ratkovic took 3rd. In March Greg reported "Once again, the Computrainer got me through another Delaware winter! I just got back from my 1st place finish in the Dannon Duathlon in Florida. Despite the Delaware winter, my bike split was better than the next fastest guy by over a minute. Some of my closest competitors have been training in Arizona and Florida all winter. Not me. I've been on the Computrainer in my basement." It's been just a year since Lucy and husband/coach Lance Watson had their first daughter. Lucy has since spent countless hours on her CompuTrainer getting back into championship shape.
CompuTrainer is New Partner in the Saturn CyberBike program
RacerMate is proud to announce that the Saturn Corporation, sponsors of the top ranked Saturn-Timex cycling team, have chosen CompuTrainer for use in their Saturn CyberBike indoor bike racing program. The CyberBike event was inaugurated last year and was taken to four of the major U.S. auto shows where it was well received. It provides show attendees with the free opportunity to participate in a short bike race in which four people compete against one another on Greg Lemond racing bikes mounted on CompuTrainers. Each person sees himself racing on a computer monitor which shows him and his opponent on the screen in splendid 3D. CompuTrainer provides an authentic racing experience which takes into account all the factors which in real life determine the outcome of a race including the effects of rider weight, speed, acceleration, wind load, and road grade. It is not uncommon for people who participate in CompuTrainer races of this kind to discover that they have a genuine talent for bike racing and togo on to join the sport. This year CyberBike will be available to the public at 12 auto shows beginning in October and November in Anaheim and San Francisco. Other venues are a possibility and will appear in the events calendar on the CompuTrainer home page.
Dave Tierney of Cary, NC, Burns Up Bike Courses All Season Long.
In a short note on his 2001 race results age grouper Dave Tierney reported the following: “I had the fastest bike split at Duathlon Worlds in Rimini, Italy last month for the 45-49 age group and finished 4th overall. I then went to Powerman Zofingen Switzerland and won my age group by 12 minutes after coming off the 150K bike leg with a 15 minute lead over the rest of the age group. In fact, since winning a CompuTrainer at Powerman Alabama in 98, my biking has improved greatly. I had the 3rd fastest bike split at Powerman Alabama this year and there were 500 + competitors and I’m 46 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!“
Rick Simons of Oak Park, IL, Has “Mediocre” Showing at 2001 Masters World Track Bike Championships in Manchester, England.
Rick Simons, 68 year old World Master’s record holder in the 500 meter time trial, had a “mediocre” performance, by his own reckoning, at the World Masters Championships in England from Oct. 8-13, taking “only” a bronze in that event (1/2 second behind the winner) and finishing 4th in the matched pursuit and 2000 meters. What he neglected to mention is that he is now competing with a heart pacemaker which has taken some getting accustomed to this year. Rick may well be the only person in bike racing who is competing at the world championship level. And he does 90% of his training on CompuTrainer.
Robbie Ventura of US Postal Pro Cycling Team Takes Advantage of CompuTrainer in his Racing/Training, Coaching, & Cycling Studio
Robbie Ventura,of the US Postal Cycling Team is having a great 2001 racing season (winner of 3 races over the Memorial Day weekend in Iowa and Illinois ) after a rocky early season that threatened to put him out of commission. CompuTrainer's SpinScan pedal stroke diagnostic software played a key role in his identifying and then correcting a severe left leg/right leg power imbalance

Dave Harju...Ironman CA 11th
Dave is a professional triathlete from Thunderbay, Ontario, Canada, where he must train indoors exclusively for seven months of the year. Dave got a CompuTrainer in March, 2001. After training on it for the two months leading up to Ironman California he found that his hill climbing ability had improved dramatically. There's a local hill that he uses as a performance measuring stick. Previous to this year he was out of the saddle at a heartrate of 150 on this hill; now he can stay in the saddle at a heartrate of 130 and leave his training partner in the dust.
Rukosuev & Hasenbauer Win at Gulf Coast Half-Ironman
Alec Rukosuev won the race and Brian Hasenbauer won the bike prime at the Gulf Coast Half-IronmanLike many professional triathletes veteran Alec Rukosuev knew about CompuTrainer for a number of years before finally taking steps to get one in 2000. Now, having a banner 2001 with top finishes at Santos, the Pan American championships, and Ironman Brazil, as well as winning Gulf Coast, he's "crazy about CompuTrainer and has no idea how it lived without it for so long!" Immediately after his Gulf Coast victory Alec returned to his hotel room and spent 1hr 45min on his CompuTrainer recovering.

Brian Hasenbauer, an aspiring young triathlon coach soon to turn pro, won the bike prime at Gulf Coast, and wrote in about his experiences with CompuTrainer. "As you know, I am a Triathlon Coach in Dallas and recommend Computrainers to my clients. I have also used Computrainer for my training and testing for the past 5 years. On May 12, 2001 I raced at the Gulf Coast Half Ironman and all of those hours riding the Computrainer paid off. I had the fastest bike split of the day (2:11) and averaged 25.6 miles per hour which earned me the $500 Computrainer Bike Prime!! If it wasn't for the training that I was able to do this winter on the Computrainer to prepare for this race I don't think I could have been ready this early in the season to bike like that. So far this year I have had the fastest bike split at all 4 of my races and have won 2 of the 4 that I have completed. I actually won my first two races with margins of 5 and 7 minutes which was entirely built on the bike. Thanks to Computrainer for making a great product that can take anyone to the next level. Oh yeah - I plan to make my Pro debut at the Florida Challenge on September 23, 2001." Brian Hasenbauer

Dave Harju Wins Ottawa Half Ironman Sept 8th. with Great Bike Split
Hi Chuck, I am pleased to inform you that I won the Ottawa Half IM last weekend by 16 minutes 4:04 to 4:20 in second. My bike split was 13 minutes faster than the second fastest person, as I went 2:11 for the 90K. I love the CompuTrainer and people are continually asking me how I bike so fast. The CompuTrainer is definitely the answer to get and stay fast as it is an excellent way to do controlled intervals and monitor a smooth efficient pedal stroke. Even in the nice weather I try to get on the computrainer at least twice per week. I really feel that I will be able to ride with the top athletes once I make up the small deficit out of the water. Thanks again for everything, and let me know if you need some help, I hope to see you there (in Hawaii). Cheers, Dave
Anton Stranc Wins Canadian Clydesdale Championship
Hi Chuck, here is a quick Bio.
Anton Stranc:
Age 38
Profession Project manager
Weight 205

I am a weekend warrior triathlete. I started training two years ago, and run four to five races a year. I have successfully completed two Ironman competitions at Lake Placid. This year has been a break out year for me, due to my work with Peak Center and your Computrainers. They are simply the best cycling training tool available. I ride four times a week and three or more of those sessions are on the Computrainer. This year the bike leg has been the key to my success. I compete as a Clydesdale and in my first year had all sorts of problems keeping up with my training partners. This year after nine months of training on the Computrainer I "Kick Ass" on the bike. My IM bike split improved 30 minutes over last year. My time trial speed of 43kms/hr now regularly places me in the top 10 in our local time trial series. I won the Canadian Olympic distance Championship for Team Clydesdale this year. My Bike split at the North American Clydesdale Sprint Championships was the fastest of the day (unfortunately I was enjoying the bike so much I did an extra loop). Last but not least, this year I placed 18th overall at the Brick Duathlon (675 competitors), and came 2nd/89 in my age category, the most competitive. The strong bike leg lets me as a Clydesdale be competitive with others years younger and many pounds lighter.
It's been just a year since Lucy and husband/coach Lance Watson had their first daughter. Lucy has since spent countless hours on her CompuTrainer getting back into championship shape.
Dave Harju Wins Canadian Long Course Championship
" I won the Canadian Long Course Championships (GWN Tri in Edmonton) on the weekend by over 3 minutes, that is after putting it into cruise control as I was up 5-6 min at the run turn around. Again I had the fastest bike split with a field of excellent cyclists." more-- the entire item on the "more" page includes remainder of his quote. " My over time was 4:02 in really windy/tough conditions. Helping out at the booth at Lake Placid will not be a problem. I am really ready to have a good IM as CA was just getting the cob webs out and I have been flying ever since. Especially on the bike, nobody can believe how well I am riding and how smooth I look/am. I may even try to do IM Canada as I feel with the tough bike I will be a major player in the race. Then off to Kona to duke it out with the big boys. Cheers, Dave " Title: Dave Harju Wins Canadian Long Course Championship
Chad Hawkins wins the Keahou-Kona Triathlon
Chad Hawkins began using CompuTrainer in the spring of 2001. He made these remarks in a message to RacerMate after winning the Keahou-Kona Triathlon. "It was such a high to lead a race with such a commanding lead. I think it was quite obvious that my cycling was what made me stand out on race day. My time was over 12 minutes faster than the 2nd fastest bike split time. I also broke my old bike course record of 2:08:45 or 26.1 mph average. Go CompuTrainer. It was also a huge boost as I can see that I am doing so much stuff correct in my training." In a letter to his sponsors and many supporters Chad gave a blow-by-blow description of the race in which he said this about the race: "The Bike - 56 miles After a fairly smooth 1.5-minute transition I was off and ready to fly like the first part of my last name (Hawk). Right from the "get-go" I felt incredible! I literally felt unstoppable and unbeatable. Without sounding arrogant, I passed people so fast I felt a bit guilty I was crushing their moral. I was on a mission! Moving into 1st placeS The last 2 times I have done this race it wasn't until mile 50 that I finally caught 1st place. By mile 10 I could see the leader along with the lead motorbikes guiding the way. "Oh yesSthis was good!" A few minutes later I would be the one with the motorbikes as I moved into 1st. I smiled at Brent Imonen, a 4 time winner of this race, as I past by. Yes, it was a genuine smile, but I will admit there was a little intimidation mixed in with the smile as well. I think God will forgive me. As the bike continued, I felt stronger and stronger! Like I said earlier, God was indeed doing something very special on this day. By the 26-mile turnaround I was averaging over 28 mph and knew that I was well on my way to setting another bike course record. I could see the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place riders a full 5 minutes behind me. As I made my way back to town I stayed as relaxed and aerodynamic as possible against the relentless Hawaii headwinds. As I past the many spectators and volunteers they all applauded the huge lead that I was building."
First Four Ironman Qualifying Races of 2001 Won by CompuTrainer Users
Winners of the first four 2001 Ironman Qualifiers all train extensively with CompuTrainer, the official bike trainer of the Ironman Triathlon World Championship. Tara-Lee Marshall, who holds the record for continuous training time on a CompuTrainer at 6hr 5min, won Ironman Florida; Bryan Rhodes, Ironman Malaysia; Lisa Bentley, Ironman New Zealand; and Lori Bowden, Ironman Australia. (In New Zealand, Peter Sandvang of Denmark finished second but had the fastest bike split by 12 minutes.) Quality bike training does have an effect on performance!
Another Comment on SpinScan Results
Christopher Kautz, one of the two partners in PK Racing Technologies (the aerodynamic bike fitting specialists written about in the current issue of Triathlete Magazine) made this comment in a recent e-mail: " I did a local 20k on Saturday, first race for me since April of last year. I've only been training for a couple of weeks, and only casually. Despite that, my pedal stroke was smoother than it has ever been. Using the SpinScan has really improved my ability to get my power to the road, allowing me to waste less energy. I should have known that this would happen from my years of using Computrainer to set up my athlete's bikes as efficiently as possible. Still, the result was more impressive than even I had anticipated. You can, of course, quote me on that." You can reach Christopher at ckautz@pkracing.net.
Ken Glah Wins Pucon (Chile) Half-Ironman with 98% of his Bike Training on CompuTrainer
No joke. Many triathletes use CompuTrainer for almost all their bike training, rarely venturing onto the road. The reasons for this include better time efficiency, higher quality training, bad weather, safety, more reliable performance measurement, and improved technique. Veteran 37 year old pro triathlete Ken Glah (this year will be his 18th consecutive Ironman World Championship race--finishing top 5 in five of them, top 10 in five more)is the perfect example. This year Ken did ALL his winter bike training on his CompuTrainer except for two rides on the road. How effective was it? In January at the Pucon Half Ironman in Chile he beat Australia's top ranked Chris Legh and top ranked American Tim DeBoom by over 3 minutes while also giving up a big age advantage to both. Ken's performance is further evidence that riding CompuTrainer can be even more effective than training on the road.
Pro Triathlete Lisa Bentley Crazy About SpinScan
"I've been using my CompuTrainer at home (Canada) over the winter, and my SpinScan has really, really improved (my husband now calls me a SpinScan superstar!). I've used it on all of my long base rides and it has improved me tremendously. I can honestly say that the improvements I have made on the bike are because of my work on the CompuTrainer and the help of the SpinScan There is no doubt about it. I've done some long rides, but only as long as 4.5 hrs---that is a lot of spinscanning!!!" Signed Lisa Bentley
Dear Computrainer: I don't normally write after purchasing a product but in your case I have to say how pleased I am with my Computrainer
I've been using it for just a week, but it has made me look forward to riding indoors like I didn't believe was possible. I'm not a racer, but I have to admit that trying to improve my own time each day is fun and it really provides a workout that simply is not possible on a regular trainer. The Computrainer is money very well spent. Thanks! Bill Dugovich
"Thanks Chuck! The CompuTrainer is still our number one training tool. We couldn't do it without our CompuTrainers. You can quote me on that one!" Pete
(Above is from an email sent to RacerMate the day after Ironman Hawaii) Canadian Peter Reid won the World Championship Ironman in Kona Hawaii for the second time since he and wife Lori Bowden started training on their CompuTrainers in 1996. In grueling race conditions with a four hour bike ride into 50-kilometre-per-hour (31 MPH) headwinds, Reid won by more than two minutes over runner-up Timothy Deboom of the United States. Lori Bowden, the defending 1999 Ironman Champion was just under three minutes behind women's winner Natascha Badmann of Switzerland. This was the third time the pair, called by many as the world's fittest couple, came amazingly close to a sweep at the Ironman World Championships.
Joe Foster, 40-45 age grouper, flew through the bike course at IM Cal so fast he slowed down to save his legs for the run---finishing 27th off the bike, 55th overall in 9:46:52, cutting 20 minutes off his PR
Joe Foster started triathlon in 1996 at the age of 35. At the time he was 70 lbs. overweight and a heavy smoker who decided he'd better change his habits. Now he's lost the weight, stopped smoking, gotten a CompuTrainer and finishes top 5 in his 40-45 age group. Joe uses his CompuTrainer to the utmost. Although he lives in Alamo, California, he does all his hard intervals indoors on CT (CompuTrainer)using 3 minute progressions from 160 Watts to 320Watts--just like the pros. This year he noticed his feet wobbling a bit in the pedals, and switched to a different design after measuring a 5 to 10Watt increase in his power on the CT. Joe gave us this background information when he visited our booth at the Ironman California Expo before the race. He sent this e-mail message after the race:
Hi Chuck, Thought I'd drop you a quick note to thank you for your time and enthusiasm for my finish last week. I can not tell you how much fun I had on the bike course - I was absolutely flying ( . . .and frankly, giggling like a 10 year-old the whole way :). My first lap was *so* fast that I was able to make the decision at mile 70 to ratchet down my pace, by 10 beats per minute and ride the climbs lightly, so as to have fresh legs for the run - I have never been in that position before. Net-net, the intensive CT training worked - the changes in torso position, biomechanics, and even pedals (obtained from analyzing the CT's feedback) worked. What a scream! Thanks again for your support and interest in my story. Your product was instrumental to my achieving a 20 minute PR for the Ironman! TWENTY MINUTES! Joe

Canadian Simon Whitfield Wins First Olympic Triathlon GoldMedal in Sydney
Simon Whitfield, winner of the first Olympic Triathlon in Sydney, is a long time CompuTrainer user. Simon was introduced to CompuTrainer in 1997 by his friends Peter Reid and Lori Bowden (see next news item) at their home in Victoria, British Columbia. He and fellow Olympics teammate Sharon Donnelly prepared for the Sydney race by riding the simulated Olympics bike course on their CompuTrainers. The course is now available on this website for downloading into the PC1 software.
Tara-Lee Marshall Wins Second Ironman of 2000 Jan Wanklyn & Alec Rukosuev Also on the Podium
New Zealander Tara-Lee Marshall proved her mettle convincingly for the second time in 2000 by winning Ironman Florida in October in Panama City, Florida. Earlier in the year she won Ironman Switzerland (her first Ironman championship) and the New Balance Half Ironman. Tara-Lee's latest Florida win comes less than two years after she began training on CompuTrainer. Despite a string of mishaps during the past two years that could easily have discouraged a less determined person she has reached the top. Couldn't happen to a nicer person--congratulations Tara-Lee! Joining her on the podium was longtime CompuTrainer user Jan Wanklyn who finished 3rd. Jan, age 42, has been using CompuTrainer longer than any other active female professional triathlete (since 1993). Jan is living proof that "Life Begins at 40". Alec Rukosuev, a newcomer to the CompuTrainer user ranks this season, finished 2nd behind Jamie Cleveland of Canada who won his first Ironman race
Polar™ Heartrate Wireless Receiver Kit now available
Australian age group triathletes Andy and Sue Foggin of Sydney, New South Wales (the site of the 2000 Olympics and a triathlon stronghold) got the results they hoped for after they began using CompuTrainer in June 2000. In his first five races of the season (it's early summer down under) in the hotly contested 30-40 age group, Andy has won three times and finished second twice. The CompuTrainer enabled Sue to keep training during her pregnancy without endangering their baby, and now she is using it to get back in shape. Andy attributes his improved bike split to the CompuTrainer. He's been within 40 seconds of the fastest bike split in every race, and in one (the Canberra Half, Race#2 in th eNSW State Cup) he had the fastest bike split in his age group and the 5th fastest overall. Last year he was to 10 on the bike; this year he's top 5. Plus he's winning compared to finishing 3rd
"CompuTrainer 6 Hour Club" Kicked Off by Tara-Marshall
In an interview with Inside Triathlon Magazine after Ironman Florida Tara-Lee said her training for the race at her home in Penticton, B.C., Canada, included 6 hour workouts on her CompuTrainer. Yikes! Reports of 4 and 5 hours CompuTrainer workouts are fairly common, but 6 hours is outrageous. In honor of her devotion to high quality training Tara-Lee has been named charter member of the "CompuTrainer 6+ Hour Club". Any other qualifiers out there?
In an Email from a CompuTrainer user, Eddy Kwon wrote:
"Hi Norm, Thanks for the feedback and repair help. I didn't realize how good technical and repair support would be when I purchased my CompuTrainer initially. Your world class services compliment a world class training system perfectly. Thanks again Norm."
Pete and Lori win Ironman CanadaLori Bowden & Peter Reid Win Ironman Canada Going Away
Peter Reid and Lori Bowden, often called the World's Fittest Couple, each won their 7th Ironman championship on August 27th in Penticton, B.C., by winning Ironman Canada in commanding fashion (the second time they have won both sides of an Ironman race--having done so first in Australia last year). On a cold, windy day with patches of rain Lori won this race by the whopping margin of 33 minutes and Peter, who has been battling an early season foot injury, by 13 minutes. Both had the fastest bike splits of the day. Lori and Peter began training together on CompuTrainer in 1996 before either had won an Ironman and consider it an indispensable training tool.

Chuckie V"I am sick of getting my butt kicked by CompuTrainer users!"
In his own inimitable style Chuckie "V" recently indicated his interest in becoming a CompuTrainer user in the following e-mail: "Hi Chuck, I am sick of getting my butt kicked by CompuTrainer users! I recently picked up a coach, and he is forcing me to pick one up! I would like to know if you can extend a pro deal on a unit or two (one for his use...check out www.criticalspeed.com if you get the chance). He and I plan to do much testing on myself, and his many clients, and begin our learning process...unfortunately, a few years behind some of my competitors! Of course, a good portion of my training will take place on the CompuTrainer." How could we resist?
Podium at Dannon National Pro Duathlon Championship Occupied Entirely by Long Time CompuTrainer Users
Pros Greg Watson, Paul Sklar, and Henrik Svarre took top honors at the National Pro Duathlon Championship in Carlsbad, California. The Watson/Sklar 1/2 finish duplicated the entire Dannon Duathlon Series where Greg won all the races and Paul took 2nd in most. Both men hold down full time jobs (Greg as an investment banker and Paul an exercise physiologist with a new baby) and so especially appreciate the exceptionally time-efficient, high quality training provided by their CompuTrainers for the past 3 years. Henrik Svarre from Denmark runs their principal athletic testing facility which has used CompuTrainers exclusively for over 5 years. Paul says this about CompuTrainer leading up to the national championship: "Just wanted to let you know that the CompuTrainer played a monumental role in my success at the National Champs. I had missed 6 weeks of running due to a torn soleus muscle in my calf and was somehow able to bike. I spent a lot of time working the hills of the Zofingen and '95 Time Trial courses. It made the hills in Carlsbad seem easy."

Hearty congratulations to the first US Olympic Triathlon team. From left to right: Jennifer Gutierrez, Nick Radkewich, Hunter Kemper, Sheila Taormina, and Ryan Bolton --- five of the six person team that will represent the U.S. in the sport of triathlon in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Five of the team members have trained on CompuTrainer for from two to five years. Chances are that most of them will be riding the simulated Sydney Olympics bike course on CompuTrainer in preparation for this epic event---the first Olympics to include triathlon.

Peter Sandvang Wins World Long Distance Triathlon Championship - Second Straight Year
In Nice, France, on June 18th Peter Sandvang of Denmark won the ITU World Long Distance Triathlon Championship for the second year in a row. Peter began using CompuTrainer before his first victory in Nice. Peter also came in 2nd to Michael Tobin (another CompuTrainer user) in the Minuro International Duathlon in early June. According to www.Slowtwitch.com , he is now considered "the most exciting long distance guy since Peter Reid" (also a long time CompuTrainer user).

ChrisChris Eschbach Has Fastest Bike Split at Buffalo Springs Half Ironman
Chris Eschbach, rising young pro triathlete and researcher at the Laboratory of Applied Physiology at the University of Southern Mississippi, uses CompuTrainer extensively in his work at the lab and in his own training. At the Buffalo Springs Lake Half Ironman on June 25th in Lubbock, Texas, he finished 5th overall (ahead of Dave Scott, Scott Molina and Scott Tinley) and had the fastest bike split by over 2 minutes. Regarding his preparation for the race he said, "I used the Buffalo Springs 3D course for my preparation for this year's race. Last year I had a good bike but this year I really feel like the 3D course helped me to kick it up a notch. During my training it really helped me to get a feel for the entire course and to know where to really work and where to conserve for hard portions...it paid off, the fastest bike split with a great field of athletes. It has really motivated and given me a boost for the rest of the season."

Bike Science Consortium to Demonstrate World's Highest Tech Bike Fit at Ironman Hawaii Expo in Kona October 11, 12 and 13.

CompuTrainer, PK Racing Technologies, and John Howard/Dr. Ernie Ferrel have formed a group called the Bike Science Consortium to apply innovative edge science and engineering to cycling performance. The group will demonstrate the latest, cutting edge bike positioning technology by applying it to fifteen fortunate triathletes at the Ironman World Championship Expo. CompuTrainer users interested in participating should apply in advance (click below to apply). PK Racing Technologies, a recent startup company, has developed unique, bike specific "virtual wind tunnel" technology which utilizes proprietary software and digital photography. An article in the September issue of Triathlete Magazine describes the technology. Coupled with a CompuTrainer for precision power measurement and pedal stroke analysis (SpinScan) the PK Racing technology positions the cyclist to achieve the optimum balance of power output and frontal area for maximum speed. The Howard/Ferrel team brings an exceptional combination of in-depth knowledge of cycling biomechanics, anatomy, and competitive cycling performance. The John Howard School of Champions is the oldest cycling school in the U.S., and Dr. Ferrel is a highly experienced chiropractor with decades of experience in analyzing cycling biomechanics. Speed increases of 10% or more, and a more comfortable cycling position, are the usual result of the application of this technology. Come and see it being applied at the CompuTrainer/Ironman Institute booth at the Kona Expo.

George Ganoung Posts Fastest Bike Split at National Duathlon Championships at Sartell, Minnesota on July 9th
George said this after the race, "I just returned from the Duathlon National Championships where I won my age group (25-29) and placed 5th overall. In addition, I posted the fastest bike split overall by 2:10 over the next individual competitor. I have been a CompuTrainer user for 3 years and it has definitely been a key part of my training and recent racing success. The SpinScan has definitely helped me to pedal more efficiently and the power displays have enabled me to determine the position on the bike. In addition, having the nationals race course available on line allowed me to preview the course several times prior to the race so I knew exactly what to expect. Thanks for putting out a great product."
